Explore the divine sites of Pawapuri
The Jalmandir (Water Temple) is the most sacred and iconic structure in Pawapuri. Built entirely of white marble, it stands majestically in the middle of a large lotus-covered pond.
This is the exact spot where Lord Mahavira was cremated after attaining Nirvana. The earth taken from this place to cremate his body left behind a large depression which filled with water and blossomed with lotus flowers.
Pilgrims reach the temple via a long marble causeway that cuts through the lotus pond. The temple is maintained by the Shri Digambar Jain Mandir Samiti.
Samosharan Temple, Pawapuri
The Samosharan is a magnificent recreation of the celestial preaching hall where Lord Mahavira delivered his divine teachings and final sermon (Uttaradhyayana Sutra) before his Nirvana.
This grand architectural marvel features intricate carvings, multiple tiers representing celestial spheres, and beautiful depictions of Jain cosmology. It stands as a symbol of Mahavira's universal teaching that was open to all β humans, animals, and celestial beings.
The Sacred Lotus Pond
The vast lotus-covered pond surrounding the Jalmandir is one of nature's most beautiful spiritual settings. According to legend, when the earth was dug to cremate Lord Mahavira's body, the depression filled with sacred water and blossomed with countless lotus flowers.
Walking along the pond's marble pathway at sunrise or sunset is an experience of profound peace. The sight of thousands of pink and white lotus blossoms reflecting in the still water, with the white marble temple in the center, is truly divine.
